| The
Hall of Presidents was transformed into the Haunted
Mansion silent auction hall (pictured above). Much
of the artwork was one-of-a-kind paintings and original
designs from the limited edition collectibles sold at the
event.

Above you can see a
sampling of the paintings that were available. The
original artwork from the framed pin sets sold at the
event were also available (not pictured). The artist
proof and whiteware Hitchhiking Ghosts sculpture set from
the Walt Disney Classics Collection (above, bottom left)
and the whiteware of the resin event sculpture "And a
Ghost Will Follow You Home..." (above, top right)
were up for bidding as well. The auction prices were very
reasonable given that most people were pin collectors and
did not bid on the larger artwork. The only negative
comment we can make is that of the silent auction process
itself. The idea is that people write down a bid on
paper and then someone can come along and raise that bid
etc. The problem is that people see the other
person's bid (i.e. it is not a "blind" auction
as stated). Therefore, what happens at these events
is that instead of active back-and-forth bidding as
happens at a regular auction, someone will stand in front
of the clipboard at one minute before the closing time,
and then dominate the clipboard until the auction closes
so that they are ensured the win. We saw people
physically picking the clipboard up off the table and
holding onto it until the auction closed so that no one
else could have a chance. This would not happen if
bids were placed into a box so that you truly were making
a blind bid, reflecting the highest amount you would pay.
Despite this, it seemed people enjoyed the auction and the
unique collectibles that were available.
At the auction, many
limited edition artists were present, including Robert
King, sculptor of the "And a Ghost Will Follow You
Home" sculpture, and Dave Avanzino who created a
auction piece of the Haunted Mansion hallway (shown
below).
